UNIVERSITÄTSVIERTEL
You have some time between your classes? Explore the uni-veedel! If the weather is good you can play games like spikeball at Uniwiesen, or enjoy the sun at Aachener Weiher. If it's not, you can calm down in one of the sweet study cafés, read a book, drink coffee and watch people.
BELGISCHEL VEEDEL
The Belgium Quarter is located between Aachener Straße, Hohenzollernring and Venloer Straße around the Brüsseler Platz. All the streets are named after Belgium cities.
It is a typical student quarter with a lot of different bars, cafés and restaurants in which you can get easily in touch with locals and other students. Further, the quarter offers you a lot of little boutiques and Designer-shops with individual offers.
If you want to change your perspective on Cologne, we recommend to visit the rooftop of the parking garage in Maastrichter Straße. From there you have a beautiful view over the city and can check out how many people own a rooftop terrace.
EHRENFELD
Ehrenfeld is a wonderful place where you can find everything you need to spend a great night out - from fancy cafes with amazing food to huge clubs with all kinds of music. If you are vegan or don’t eat gluten - there are plenty of spots where you can enjoy the type of food you like! If you prefer to spend your night out talking to friends in a bar rather than dancing in the club - Ehrenfeld provides a lot of great places to enjoy any kind of bar night.
SÜDSTADT
Südstadt is one of the most popular Veedels for locals, the mixture of a traditional„kölsch” neighbourhood with an international flair is what makes it so unique. Chlodwigplatz is not only famous for being the center of „Kölner Karneval” but also a great place to meet for a fun bar night.
If you are curious about our local beer Kölsch, don’t miss trying a freshly brewed Kölsch at Früh Em Veedel, Zum Alten Brauhaus or Johann Schäfer, some of the oldest Kölsch-Breweries in Cologne.
The Rheinaufhafen is not only beautiful in the summer time when you can visit the open air cinema „Sion-Sommerkino” or have a nice view of the „Kranhäuser”. As a chocolate lover you shouldn’t miss the opportunity of visiting the Chocolate Museum, where you can grab a chocolate beer or even create your own chocolate bars.
For your morning walk, a chill hangout with your friends or a fun paddle tour with the pedal boats, always consider the Volksgarten.
DEUTZ
The Schäl Sick can offer more than you might think! Most importantly, you can see the Dom from almost everywhere in Deutz; from the Rheinterrassen where you can enjoy a cold Kölsch from a Kiosk while watching the sun set right over the Dom, from the Deutzer Werft while observing skaters; from the observation deck of the Triangle tower (which is only 4€ for students), from the beach club (km689) located within the Rheinpark or from the panorama sauna of the Claudius Therme.
Also in Deutz, you can find the Lanxess Arena where lots of shows, concerts and sport events, like the ice hockey games of the Kölner Haie, take place. So do not miss out on discovering the Veedel on the “wrong” side of the river!
MÜLHEIM
One of the hidden beauties in the north of Cologne. Although located on the "wrong side" (Schäl Sick) of the Rhine, here you'll find a beautiful promenade on the river with a view of the Dom.
If you just want to relax in the sun, cross the "Katzenbuckelbrücke" and find a nice beach area to hang out. And when you are hungry, just step into the "Rheinspaziert" to have a good cake or have Mülheim's best Pizza at "Localino."
If you are more into Turkish food you should stop at Cologne's "little turkey", the famous "Keupstraße." They also have shiny jewelry there, if you need some.
When you are searching for some cultural or sporty activities, you'll find them right next to the "Keupstraße" in the area of the "Carlswerk" A nice concert, theater, or some climbing and bouldering? - Everything possible in the "Carlswerk".
